Summer is here once again, and so are all the other unwanted critters that afflict our pets at this time of the year. Pet owners in the state of Florida have a lot more than they bargain for when summer arrives, that's why in this special summer issue, you will find everything you need to know about fleas, ticks and lyme disease, etc. to help you recognize the symptoms of trouble and to have the wisdom to exercise preventive medicine.
Summer is also the time of the year where many families are preparing for a vacation. We all dream of the perfect destination-a place where we can relax our minds, body, and soul but... what about the beloved family pet? You'll find some very helpful hints about traveling with your pet on page 40. If your pet cannot travel with you, at least you can rest your mind knowing that South Florida has many professional men and women who will come to your home and take care of your pet, as well as many beautiful accredited boarding facilities where they will pamper and love your pet until you come back. Don't forget to check "While You're Away" on page 16 -17. For those of you who like to travel in comfort and style, please check out the cool matching sun visors for you and your pet, a terrific design by "Puppy Love." Keep the sun away from your eyes and theirs.
For pet lovers there is always room for one more, and that holds true in my household as well. A week ago, we welcomed "Millie" a black, brown and white baby Shih Tzu into our home. She's still a very small baby yet, but it is a wonderful experience, another one to love and spoil. Some may say another responsibility, and they would be right.
A pet is not a toy, and acquiring one adds to your responsibilities and expenses but... it certainly is the most rewarding experience. What they can offer you no money can buy. They give you UNCONDITIONAL LOVE twenty-four hours a day, every day of the week. You should be prepared to do the same. Do not buy or adopt a pet unless you can fully take care of it as well as you would your own kids.
One of the most exciting events that I personally look forward every year is the "Genesis Awards." The Genesis Awards recognizes actors and actresses, as well as animals that have worked on films. This is the Oscar Night for many Hollywood Celebrities who work on animal issues in motion pictures. And the winner is... read all about it on page 26.
Many of you would say, "Who is that beautiful blonde with the gorgeous dogs that is gracing the summer issue cover of The Pet Tribune?" I won't tell you... read all about it on page 24. What I will tell you is... she is no stranger to Florida. This beautiful Hollywood celebrity spends many months on the beautiful beaches of Daytona Beach, where this exclusive photo shoot took place, along with her dogs Zeke and Zelda.
In closing, I would like to wish all our readers and advertisers a wonderful and relaxing summer!
