I'd like to introduce to you a product that is very well known in the human natural health arena. It is an herbal decoction known as Essiac. While there is a lot of confusion around the exact formula for Essiac and who has it, there are some facts that everyone involved agrees upon. Essiac gets its name from a Canadian nurse named Rene Caisse. Essiac is simply Caisse spelled backwards. Around 1922 or 23, Rene Caisse received the formula from a patient who had successfully treated her own breast cancer. The patient had received the formula from an Ojibway Indian medicine man. Two years later, when Rene's aunt developed "terminal" cancer, the physician agreed to let her try the herbal formula. Her aunt lived another 20 years. Nurse Caisse continued to use the formula in cancer patients with high rate of success. She eventually opened a clinic where patients weren't even charged for treatment. Initially, patients were sent to her clinic by their own physicians. As the success of Essiac treatment became better known, physicians began to rebel against the idea of a nurse treating patients. Over the ensuing years, a tremendous legal battle was waged. In 1937, the Royal Cancer Commission conducted hearings about Essiac. Eventually, even Parliament was pushed by the populace to vote on legislation to legalize the use of Essiac. In 1938, the vote was taken and Essiac failed by 3 votes to achieve approval. In the 1960's, she worked with Dr. Charles Brusch at the Brusch Clinic in Massachusetts. Dr. Brusch was the personal physician for President John F. Kennedy. Dr. Brusch is quoted as saying "Essiac is a cure for cancer, period. All studies in the United States and Canada support this conclusion". There are innumerable reports of Essiac working in a variety of cancers, including those of the brain, bone, eye, ovaries and more. Many other chronic conditions have also been improved - diabetes, skin problems, chronic viral infections, digestive dysfunction and neuromuscular conditions to name a few.
So what is Essiac and how can it help so many conditions?
Basically, Essiac is a combination of herbs that helps to detoxify the body of excess mucus, heavy metals, and toxic waste. It also improves liver function, acts as an anti-oxidant, and strengthens the pancreas and spleen. By cleansing the body and improving digestive function, the immune system is set free to deal with healing the body. The formula consists primarily of four herbs, Sheep Sorrel, Burdock, Turkey Rhubarb, and Slippery Elm. Each of these herbs acts to detoxify various tissues and organs. They also provide a wide variety of micronutrients. Where does the confusion come in? There are many products on the market that are labeled "Essiac" or something very close. Each manufacturer claims to be the only one with the original Rene Caisse formula. There are those who say that these four herbs only make up the bulk of the formula but that there were other herbs as well. Rene Caisse had a very difficult time with the authorities and she had people attempting to get the formula from her for their personal financial benefit. As a result, she became very protective of the information she possessed. It is plausible that she only gave a partial formula to people in order to test their motives. Each product has testimonials supporting its benefits. What is not known by many is that Rene Caisse used an injectable form of Essiac as well as the oral. Currently, I know of only one source of an injectable product. This leads me to believe that this particular company does have the "real thing". For more information, give me a call.
